Overview

The Drnča estate (Lambergh Château & Hotel) has been mentioned in literature since around the 11th century. At that time, it was in the hands of Iwan of Zgoša. Then the owners changed, and the last one was the Counts of Lambergh. This is where the name of the castle comes from. Jakob II Lamberg renovated the entire castle in 1531. The castle's current Renaissance flair comes from then. He had wooden ceilings and stone stairs made, which are still on display today. He had his life motto engraved on the memorial plaque on the facade of the castle: "God, grant a happy ending!" The building is classified as an immovable monument of local importance. A cultural local monument is a building that has exceptional cultural value at the local level. Such buildings are initially evaluated as cultural heritage and then entered into the Register of Immovable Cultural Heritage. The proclamation is carried out by proclamation acts adopted by the competent authority. These acts are published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia or the local community newsletter.
After the end of World War II, the owners of the Drnča manor were Baroness Josephine Baronin Baillou and Baron Raoul Baillou. Raoul led a Bible club where the men read the Bible at their meetings. The Baroness was a very educated woman and spoke German. She had a great reputation among the locals. She often tried to rescue partisan fighters from the prison in Begunje. Both had Yugoslav citizenship, but despite this, they had to leave the manor, as their property was nationalized. Today, the manor is a magnificent hotel. The Renaissance Lamberg manor was renovated in 2011. Today, you can find nine luxuriously furnished rooms in it, from which you have a beautiful view of the castle park and the Julian Alps.
